Carpet

Carpet & Carpet Tile Flooring

Carpet is a type of flooring that is comfortable and extremely fashionable. A popular alternative to hardwood floors, carpet generally consists of a cushion made with rubber latex, jute, or synthetic material that has natural or man-made yarns inserted in it. Before choosing carpet flooring, it is important to consider which kind of carpet is best, if the sub-floor is suited for it, and if the sub-floor needs any repairs. Make sure you choose the proper carpet for the end-use location, be it residential or commercial. For example, you will want a hard-wearing carpet for heavy traffic areas or 100% synthetic carpet tile, which does not retain moisture, for places like bathrooms or boats.

The word carpet refers to a wool or synthetic fabric that is totally fixed to the floor surface, as opposed to a separate rug. Carpet is a textile floor covering and is often used for the insides of residential homes, hotels, and offices. It has its merits and faults, just like laminate floors and every other type of floor covering. Carpets provide a greater thermal insulation than other kinds of floor covering--those with thick hair and lower pile density offer better energy saving results. Studies confirm that a carpet about 0.39" thick has the same insulation power of a 5.91" cement floor, resulting in a considerable reduction in the use of heating and an energy savings ranging from 5% to 13%.

Usually carpet is chosen for decorative purposes. But also because of the great number of benefits it provides: the warmth, the comfort, the noise reduction. Carpets are installed over a cushion made with synthetic material, in the case of commercial use, it can be glued down. Today, carpet is offered in a wide variety of choices and colors. The surface of a carpet can be plain or patterned. Depending on the pile density and the kind of fiber, carpet is very durable and fairly wear-resistant.
